Why Ceramic Coating is Worth It for North Carolina Drivers

If you value keeping your vehicle looking its best while adding some moderate protective benefits, you’ve probably heard of ceramic coating. This is a protective liquid polymer coating that goes beyond wax or other store-bought sealants. Is it really worth the investment though?

For drivers in Raleigh, NC and surrounding areas, our answer is almost always yes. Between the hot and humid summers, pollen, tree sap, and road grime, ceramic coating is going to provide unmatched protection, shine, and ease of maintenance when compared to its alternatives.

What Exactly is Ceramic Coating?

Ceramic coating is a highly-durable liquid polymer that can be applied to your vehicle’s paint, wheels, trim, glass and more. It can also be used to protect more than cars – think boats, industrial equipment, and even planes and helicopters. Once it’s cured, it forms a chemical bond to the surface which creates a durable, hydrophobic layer to repel water, dirt, dust, and other contaminants.

In simpler terms, your car will be much easier to clean and shinier than ever. However, a ceramic coating is only as good as the installation and the paint condition prior to applying the coating. That is why at 5 Star Design, we will not apply our ceramic coating packages without properly correcting the paint before application

the benefits for our raleigh drivers

  • Protection from UV Damage: Raleigh natives know our area gets plenty of sun, which can fade paint and dull clear coat over time. Ceramic coating gives your paint an extra layer of protection against UV rays and keeps your finish looking glossy and protected year-round
  • Hydrophobic Properties: Rain and humidity mean constant water spots and grime buildup on your painted surfaces, glass, plastic trim and more. A ceramic coating creates that famous hydrophobic, slick surface so that water beads up and rolls right off, taking dirt with it. This makes maintenance a breeze for our ceramic coating customers.
  • Long-Lasting Gloss: Unlike wax and cheap sealants from the store, ceramic coating will provide a deep, mirror-like shine for years. Each and every wash will bring that “freshly detailed” look to turn heads. We just ask that you keep us in mind when people ask why your car looks so good.
  • Added Paint Durability: From bird droppings and bug splatter, to road salt during the winter, ceramic coating adds a strong barrier to keep corrosive and acidic materials from etching and staining your paint. It can even help resist paint swirls.
  • Wide Range of Applications: Ceramic coating is not just for your car! We can apply this protective coating to boats, airplanes, heavy equipment and more.

How Long Does a Ceramic Coating Last?

At 5 Star Design, we only use proven, tested, high-quality coating systems that are applied under controlled conditions to ensure maximum bonding and performance. Our professional-grade ceramic coatings can last over 3 years when maintained properly. Regular washing and maintenance sprays for your coated vehicle are important to get the most out of your coating. We also recommend keeping your vehicle stored out of direct sunlight in a garage or covered parking to prolong the life of the coating.

When compared to other protective options like store-bought sealants and wax, ceramic coating significantly outperforms the alternatives. Products like wax will only last for weeks at most and can often leave residue on your paint if not applied correctly.

Consider pairing your ceramic coating with your newly vinyl wrapped vehicle or compliment your PPF installation for the strongest combination of durability and protection.

How Much Does Ceramic Coating Cost?

Ceramic coating for most vehicles begins at $999 with our light package. This includes an exterior and interior detail, paint correction and coating applied to all exterior panels, glass surfaces, headlights and taillights.

The final cost of your ceramic coating project is largely influenced by the condition of your paint. In order to ensure the best possible result, we will not apply ceramic coating to your paint unless we have properly corrected it first.
